SYNOPSIS & OBJECTIVES

The Certificate of Christian Elementary Education* equips current and future teachers with essential teaching skills, instilling a biblically driven educational philosophy. It underscores the importance of a liberal arts understanding from a Christian perspective to infuse teaching with moral integrity and distinction. The curriculum includes training in lesson design, classroom leadership, and the use of modern teaching technologies.

It is earned when students elect to complete 15 units from the Smart Courses listed below and has the following objectives:

  • Formulate and express an individual educational philosophy rooted in Christian values.
  • Skillfully design teaching strategies utilizing acquired knowledge and competencies.
  • Navigate classroom dynamics effectively with acquired management techniques.
  • Exhibit expertise in integrating educational technology and multimedia tools.

COURSES & DESCRIPTIONS

EDU 206: Foundations of Education (3 units)

Learners will delve into the history, core concepts, psychological underpinnings, and fundamental principles of elementary education, as well as its modern-day impact. They will recognize influential individuals and foundational theories, evaluate prominent pedagogical methods, and examine various curricula. The course also encourages critical examination of the merits and drawbacks of diverse educational methodologies through different perspectives.

PSC 306: Foundations of Educational Psychology (3 units)

This course examines educational psychology principles, focusing on assessment, teaching styles, and classroom strategies, integrated with Jude-Christian perspectives. It explores diverse learning styles, motivation techniques, and developmental stages, aligning with a biblical worldview.

EDU 306: Technology in Education (3 units)

This class focuses on the hands-on application of technology in educational settings, emphasizing the practical fusion of computers, software, and multimedia with teaching. Throughout the course, students will evaluate, adapt, and originate instructional resources tailored to meet specific educational objectives within their teaching disciplines.

EDU 316: Classroom Management (3 units)

This course examines pedagogical strategies and resources, articulates educational goals, develops lesson structures, and conveys classroom oversight essentials.

EDU 326: Elementary Teaching Methods (3 units)

Elementary Teaching Methods delves into the learning traits of children and identifies effective instructional methods. It places a strong emphasis on strategies for managing behaviors among children in group settings.
