Certificate of Business & Finance for Christian Professionals

SYNOPSIS & OBJECTIVES

The United States of America—built on the bedrock of Judeo-Christian values—is the global leader in business.  The courses in this certificate* communicate principles for lasting success in the marketplace and any organization where sound business practices are needed.

This certificate may be achieved upon the successful completion of the courses listed below, or any combination of HQ business & finance courses that total a minimum of 12 units. The objectives according to the listed classes are:

  • Understand the fundamental concepts of business from a biblical perspective.
  • Explore money management, acquisition, budgeting, and cashflow.
  • Understand financial statements, journals, ledgers, payroll, and other accounting fundamentals.
  • Discover Judeo-Christian ethical principles that are foundational to business.
  • Learn basic principles of economics and explore past and present politico-economic systems.

COURSES & DESCRIPTIONS

BUS 106: Fundamentals of Business (3 units)

This course provides an overview of the fundamental practices and issues involved in managing and operating a business in today’s marketplace. Areas of business explored in this course include various management theories, economic concepts, management and organization, human resources, sales and marketing, and operations. The course also examines the challenges of operating in both domestic and global markets, business ethics and business strategy.

BUS 226: Financial Management (3 units)

This course is an introduction to business and financial policies regarding allocation, acquisition, and flow of funds. The student is introduced to basic accounting terms and principles and develops skills in reading financial statements, calculating ratios and managing budgets.

BUS 246: Business Accounting (3 units)

This course is an introduction to the field of accounting and the role that accounting plays in business. Students will be introduced to journals, ledgers, postings, and adjusting/closing of the books. The course emphasis is on understanding the complete accounting cycle and preparing financial statements, bank reconciliations and payroll.

BUS 336: Business Ethics (3 units)

This course is a study of ethical theories and how they relate to contemporary issues in business.  Special attention is given to the application of Judeo-Christian ethical principles, identifying basic beliefs, values, commitments, and ethical decision-making.

ECO 103: Basic Economics (3 units)

This course conveys principles of basic economics from a Judeo-Christian perspective and explores several different types of politico-economic systems both past and present.
