Certificate of Biblical Counseling
SYNOPSIS & OBJECTIVES
The Certificate of Biblical Counseling* is for students who want to explore their interests in resolving personal and social issues through Christian principles of counseling. It is earned when students complete the online courses listed below, or a combination of psychology and counseling courses totaling a minimum of 12 units. The objectives of this certificate with the listed courses are:
- Understand the fundamental concepts of psychology from a biblical perspective.
- Explore ways to integrate biblical counseling with psychology.
- Discover the distinction of biblical counseling within the major psychotherapy theories.
- Study human psychological development from a Christian standpoint.
COURSES & DESCRIPTIONS
PSC 123: General Psychology (3 units)
Fundamental concepts of psychology are covered in this course, including an introduction to the scientific study of human emotions, mental processes, behavior, social psychology, life span development, personality theories, biological processes, and psychological disorders.
PSC 203: Biblical Counseling (3 units)
An introduction to counseling from a biblical perspective, this course explores the intersection of Christian and psychological principles with ways to integrate and apply them.
PSC 213: Theories of Counseling (3 units)
This course analyzes major psychotherapy theories in modern mental health, emphasizing ethical issues and the distinction of biblical counseling.
PSC 253: Developmental Psychology (3 units)
Focusing on human psychological development, this course covers personality, psychosocial, psychosexual, behavioral and cognitive trajectories, including research findings of ideal individual and family development.
