Richard Risbrudt, “Mr. Riz”
Richard Risbrudt, affectionately known as “Mr. Riz,” has dedicated more than 45 years to teaching high school chemistry, enriching the lives of countless students at both community and private schools. After numerous requests from the homeschooling community, including former students who homeschool their children, he created ChemExplained.com® to bring high school chemistry to more learners. Mr. Riz’s students can earn affordable college credit and degrees through this collaborative program with Hartwell Quest® (HQ). Please explore the two main options that follow.
Option 1
Credit Transfer or Dual Credit
- The entire ChemExplained® chemistry course can be transferred to more than 240 accredited Christian colleges & universities through this innovative program.
- The ChemExplained® chemistry course can also be your initiation into an affordable associate, bachelor’s, or master’s degree through a dual credit diploma in general studies, business, leadership, ministry, psychology, biblical studies, and more!
- Option 1 is an excellent fit for high school students, graduates, or individuals with high school equivalency.
Option 2
Dual Enrollment + Fellowship Program
- This option enables students to earn live academic credit through dual enrollment with select accredited colleges in a number of academic degrees.
- Generous scholarships and grants are available for eligible students who choose option two. These can help with non-academic fellowship program costs, which can be tailored to you and may include things like educational travel, missions outreaches, volunteer work, and more!
- Option 2 is reserved for high school graduates and individuals with high school equivalency.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Hartwell™ recognizes the entire ChemExplained® chemistry course as worth 4 units/credits, which can be integrated into options 1 and 2 as described above.
Students who have completed the ChemExplained® course can transfer their achievement into option 1 or 2 by passing a Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) exam, conducted securely online by Hartwell Quest®.
- Exam Fee: The PLA exam costs $55 USD, covering transcription and technology expenses.
- Passing Grade: Students must achieve a grade of C or better (73%-100%) to pass and transfer the course units/credits into their program.
- Credit Granting: Successful completion of the PLA exam is equivalent to passing Hartwell’s Essential Chemistry course, applicable for options 1 and 2.
- Retake Fees: Fees are assessed for each attempt or reattempt of the PLA exam.
For students who have not yet taken Mr. Riz’s chemistry course, please sign up for it at ChemExplained.com® and return here once you are ready to take the PLA exam.
GLOBAL BRIDGES SCHOLARS
ChemExplained® students who enroll into a dual credit program (option 1 above) or dual enrollment + fellowship program (option 2 above) become Global Bridges Scholars!
Global Bridges is a fellowship program partner of Hartwell Quest and a ministry that provides comprehensive support for orphans, refugees, and those impacted by disaster and brutality in restricted nations through relief work, as well as domestic and international discipleship programs that instill a biblical worldview.
Mr. Riz highly recommends doing a fellowship program with Inspiration Point (Christian camp and retreat center) for students choosing option 2.
Cost-effective college pathways are made possible for high schoolers and graduates in America and around the world through Global Bridges Scholars in conjunction with Hartwell Quest® and ChemExplained.® Please explore this innovative avenue at the link below and contact us with your questions.
*College credit and degrees are offered wholly by accredited institutions. HQ does not grant college credit or administer any aspect of participation in Title IV programs. Students who have already earned AP or other equivalent college credits may find redundancies in their final degree plan, depending on the program and institution chosen. Attending a Christian college in connection with this program is not required but recommended. Visit our colleges & universities page for more information on credit transfer for college credit or degrees.
